An analysis of the social media as the new haven for the masses and of the social transformation within the context of virtual migration relationship

"Migration," which is one of the most important reasons of the social change, emerges as a phenomenon, requiring to be redefined in the Digital Age, in which the technology completely reshapes the perception of space. Today, migration indicates a spatial distinction among social media users, who are defined as "digital immigrants" and "digital natives" – a concept brought forward by physical migration as well. Migration is not only limited to physical space as was the case in the past, but has also acquired the meaning of surpassing the boundaries between the objective world and the digital world. The physical boundaries, drawn by the nation-states in the past, have now left their position to the virtual spaces, the boundaries of which are established by the internet and computer technologies. In this context, the main purpose of this study is the shape of the concept of migration and the identity of immigrants in the Digital Age, on the basis of "digital immigrants" and "digital natives". The study aims to create a theoretical approach, which covers "virtual migration", and the resulting forms, types and features of "virtual identity," by cutting across the existing definition of digital immigrats, classified according to the characteristics of the uses of social media. It aims to contribute to future studies to be conducted with solutions to address the social problems in the Digital Age. This study will explore the relationship between digitalization and migration by discussing firstly the nomadic culture patterns in the network society in the context of communication technologies and globalization. Then, the changes in our understanding of mobilization and movement, and the space and borders changing durign the restructuring of the media. Finally, how the virtual migration takes place, how it functions, its characteristics, types and system on the theoretical basis of the sociology of migration.
