The origins of classical Eurasianism and its impact on contemporary Russian foreign policy

Eurasianism is an ideological, social and political movement initiated by intellectuals who emigrated from Russia after the Russian socialist revolution of 1917. In addition to this, the concept of Eurasia has emerged from the combination of the European and Asian continents and the combination of these two words. To comprehend Eurasia and Eurasianism, as key thinkers of these concepts who are the subjects of this thesis remark, is based on knowing and understanding the history of Russia. The political views and perspectives of the thinkers to be dealt with in the study will also be examined in this context. First of all, the history of Russia from the 15th century to the present will be discussed, emphasizing the Petro period, which changed the course of Russian history, and Petro reforms will be examined in more detail. In addition, the Ukraine-Russia War will be mentioned in the context of recent Russian foreign policies and especially after Putin's Russian foreign policy, and the causes and possible consequences of this war will be investigated. Then, after mentioning the definition of the concept of Eurasia and its geopolitical and geostrategic importance, Eurasianism will be examined within the framework of both classical and new Eurasian thought. Finally, Eurasian thinkers, who have made great contributions to Eurasian thought, will be given in detail. Nikolay Trubetskoy, the founding father of Eurasianism, Peter Savitski and Lev Gumilev, will take place as the main subjects of the study. The question of whether the political, social and cultural history of the geography in which a scholar/thinker lives have an effect on his academic life and shaping his thoughtsor not will be analysed and answered with the hypothesis of the academic interests and thoughts of scholars and thinkers are influenced by both the social structure and the social and cultural history of the geography they live in. Based on this, we can say that the academic interests and perspective of life of Nikolay Trubetskoy, Peter Savitski and Lev Gumilev, who are the main subjects of our study, have been influenced by the political, social and cultural history of Russia.
