Abstract (EN)
There are codes which civil engineers have to follow while designing structure. In order to ensure the earthquake performance of the building, in addition to the relevant articles in the codes, the structural system must be carefully designed. In this thesis, it is aimed to understand the contribution of the factors, which affect the performance of the buildings during an earthquake, both individually and comparatively, and to present a study giving ideas to the civil engineers. Four new building models were created by modifying the structural system design, material quality and stirrup distance without changing the architectural design on the model of a collapsed building in 17 August 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake. Time history analysis were conducted for both the existing building model and the newly created models. As a result of the analysis, the displacements in the models, floor accelerations and the damage levels of the frame elements were obtained in the building. The results obtained for each building model were compared with each other and the existing building model. While the maximum reduction in interstory drifts was obtained in the model with shear-walls, the best improvement in the structural element performance levels were obtained in the model, which better quality materials and stirrups that have reduced distance were used. It is thought that these results will be informative for civil engineers about structural system design.
