Effect of platelet lymphocyte ratio and neutrophil lymphocyte ratio on overall survival in patients with colon and gastric cancer

Objectives: Platelet/Lymphocyte and Neutrophil/Lymphocyte ratios are known as parameters that indicate the status of inflammation and can be used in determining the prognosis of cancer.The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic values of Platelet/Lymphocyte and Neutrophil/Lymphocyte ratios in patients with colon or gastric cancer who underwent surgery. Method: In this study, 100 patients with colon or gastric cancer who underwent surgery were included. Preoperative complete blood counts were evaluated retrospectively. The study group was then seperated into higher and lower Platelet/Lymphocyte and Neutrophil/Lymphocyte groups according to the median values. Findings: In colon and gastric cancer patients, overall survival was 63.2 and 37.7 months, respectively. Groups that were determined using the median value were compared in terms of survival. Colon cancer patients with elevated Platelet/Lymphocyte ratio was found to have poorer overall survival (59 months vs. 66.3 months) and it was not statistically significant. Colon cancer patients with elevated Neutrophil/Lymphocyte ratio was found to have poorer overall survival (58.7 months vs. 65.8 months) and it was not statistically significant. Gastric cancer patients with elevated Platelet/Lymphocyte ratio was found to have poorer overall survival (31.7 months vs. 41.1 months) and it was not statistically significant. Gastric cancer patients with elevated Neutrophil/Lymphocyte ratio was found to have poorer overall survival (30.8 months vs. 44.4 months). it was not statistically significant.
