Abstract (EN)
In this study we evaluated the differences between success rate of treatments in patients with nasal polyposis with or without comorbid diseases by using objective and subjective measurements. Furthermore we investigated the effect of nasal polyposis treatment on respiratory functions in asthmatics. Thirty-eight patients with nasal polyposis treated in our clinic enrolled this study. 18,4% of patients were suffering from allergic rhinitis and 26,3% were asthmatic. Nasal patency and olfactory function were evaluated with ARM, RMM, endoscopic grading, Lund&Mackay CT scoring objectively and VAS subjectively. Marked decrease in inhaler corticosteroid usage in asthmatic patients were seen after medical and surgical treatment of nasal polyposis. Statistically insignificant increases in FEV1 and PEF values were found after medical therapy. However decrease in FEV1 and PEF values were statistically significant after surgical therapy. tVol, endoscopic grading score and CT score values improved significantly after medical therapy. There were not any change between tVol measurements before and 6 months after the surgery. On the other hand improvement in endoscopic grading scores and CT scores after surgical therapy were significant. Total NR did not change after medical or surgical therapy. Nasal patency and olfactory function improved in total and subgroups separately after medical and surgical therapy. However there was not a statistically significant difference about improvements between subgroups In this study we conclude that treatment of nasal polyposis in asthmatics decreases the inhaler corticosteroid usage but does not effect the pulmonary function test findings. There were not a significant difference between the nasal polyposis patients with or without comorbid diseases in respect of objective or subjective findings.
