Submodeling of composite structures using finite elements

Abstract (EN)

It is hard to analyze large and complex structures with Abaqus and other finite element programs. The simulation problems have increased with the new material types in time and the development of new techniques have become an obligation for this purpose. In this study, by utilizing Abaqus program, the applicability of finite element sub-modeling technique that was developed in recent years, is investigated. In the first step, modelling was achieved by using sub-modeling technique and without sub-modeling technique in three-dimensional beam model with a hole. When the static analyses were compared, Von-mises stresses, and reaction forces were obtained approximately at the same values in both modeling. When the solution times are considered, sub-modeling technique has achieved to the solution in less time than the other technique. In the second step, a composite reflector antenna that was modeled as complex structure, was modelled in less time and more easily. The analysis results of the composite reflector antenna was examined in terms of Von-Mises stress, reaction forces, and Tsai-Wu damage criterion. In conclusion, it is decided that sub-modeling technique can be applied to three-dimensional beam and the shell structured composite reflector, as well as other complex structures.
