Experimental evaluation of volumetric calculations made with different sections in cone-beam computed tomography

Abstract (EN)

In thesis, volumetric calculations were made on axial, sagittal and coronal sections of 35 irregularly circumscribed intraosseous defects created in 7 bovine femur bone condyles using planimetry and point counting technique. In addition, these calculations were evaluated separately in 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20 slice intervals. All calculated values are compared with the actual volume values obtained with Archimedes principle. When the sections were compared in terms of deviation percentages, no statistical difference was found (p = 0.051). Regarding the techniques used, there was no statistically significant difference between the techniques in terms of deviation percentages (p = 0.628). It was seen that all the calculated values were compatible with the actual volume values obtained by Archimedes principle. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of section orientation and the choice of the number of slices on the volume calculations obtained by stereological methods using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).
