Investigation of conservatory students' attitudes towards performing improvisation in terms of various variables

Abstract (EN)

In this resarch, the aim of this study was to measures the attitudes of conservatory students towards performing improvisation and to examine these attitudes in terms of various variables. In the research contemplated in accordance with screening method and quantitative quality, the study group consisted of a total 232 students who are studying in 18 state conservatories selected from different regions of Turkey with a simple random sampling method and who play Turkish Classical Music instruments (except percussion instruments) in the 2023-2024 academic year. In this study, valid and reliable (α=0,919) ''Attitude Scale Towards Performing Taksim in Turkish Music'' which was developed by Keklik Kal (2020) and also a personal information form was used. The reliability of scale used in this study was calculated as α=0,799. The data of the study were transferred to the SPSS 24.0 statistics program analyzed in line with the data, obtained from the participants. As a result of research, it was understood that the students attitudes towards performing improvisation were at a high level. With this, it was observed that there was no significant difference in the attitude score levels of the students in terms of TİEYT scores according to the gender variable, age level, type of high school graduated from, duration of playing their individual instruments, presence of a family member interested in Turkish music, education status of father and mother, grade level, status of practicing improvisation with an individual intrument during the day, status of playing in an amateur group and status of taking the stage with their individual instruments in a music event outside of school. In addition, it was concluded that there was a significant difference in the attitude score levels according to the students listening to improvisation with their individual instruments during the day, taking the stage with their individual instruments in a music event at school, and the time they devoted to studying during the day to improve their knowledge of makam.
