Effectiveness of an articulation therapy program for the children with speech sound disorder via teletherapy: A Feasibility study

Speech sound disorder is suspected when children reach a certain age and cannot produce speech sounds correctly. Speech sound disorder affects speech intelligibility. The speech and language therapist use many different intervention methods for speech sound disorders. These interventions can be applied face-to-face or via teletherapy. The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of the traditional approach in the intervention of speech sound disorders, through teletherapy. For this purpose, multiple baseline design across participants, one of the single-subject research models, was used. The study was managed with four children aged between 4 to 6 with speech sound disorders. The target sound to be studied is /ʃ/ and the sound selected for control without any intervention is the /ɫ/ sound. The sessions were three days a week and 30 minutes each. The effectiveness of the traditional approach was determined by the correct production percentage of the target sound in the lists prepared for the determined target sound. Therapy was terminated when participants met 100% success criteria for three consecutive sessions on the target voice probe list. The result of the study, it was seen that the goal was achieved by meeting the criteria for the target voice of all participants. The participants continued their success in the follow-up sessions held after the therapy ended. There was no change on sound /ɫ/ except for two participant.
