Abstract (EN)

Manufacture of burn-efficient automatic feed boilers and stoves are made in Turkey for the use of pellet fuel on heating purposes. The aim of this thesis study, the use of pellet fuel in manually-loaded and non-automatic fed stoves are it is to be investigated experimentally in terms of thermal performance and emissions. The performance of pellets in bucket and bucket-free type stoves available in the market was compared to TS 4900 EN 13240 and their thermal performance. In each of the two types of stoves, the results obtained from the burning of pellets, imported coal and pellet-imported coal mixtures were compared to the numerically calculated data. The efficiency of the stoves covered by the study is below 50%. Low stove efficiency causes inefficient combustion of fuels and the disposal of polluting gases which are harmful to the environment. When compared with the fuels used for each stove, it is seen that the stove efficiency is lower in the experiments performed with pellet fuel. In the experiments of burning pellets, the high flue gas temperature and CO emission values cause the efficiency to decrease. Due to the high amount of volatile substances in the pellet fuel, the flue gas temperature and CO emission values are high. In spite of this, in pellet burning, the amount of particulate matter under the bed in ash is less than the coal burning, it increases the stove efficiency slightly.
