Abstract (EN)

This study is about Ereğli District of Konya. Ereğli is located in the Konya sub-region of the Central Anatolia Region. It is centrally located although it is 153 km away from Konya. It is a stopping point before the Gülek Strait, which opens from the Central Anatolia Region to the Mediterranean Region. This geographical position has led to many states to be under the sovereignty. In the first chapter, physical features of Ereğli such as topography, climate, soil and hydrography are explained. Ereğli Plain is the second largest plain of Konya and has rich water resources. Thus, it contributed to the development of Ereğli. In the second chapter, the history of Ereğli from the Neolithic Age to the present is reviewed. The name of Ereği in ancient times is "Heraklia Kbyistra". The city was founded B.C. and the first inhabitants of it were Hittites. Ereğli was an important border fortress in the Byzantine period. During the Ottomans, the castle was demolished and became vulnerable. In the third chapter, population development, urban-rural, age groups, gender and educational characteristics of Ereğli are explained. Ereğli has a young population. Population increased with industrial investments. Thus, according to the 2018 census results, the population is 145,389. During the Ottomans, the castle was demolished and became vulnerable. In the third chapter, population development, urban-rural, age groups, gender and educational characteristics of Ereğli are explained. Ereğli has a young population. Population increased with industrial investments. Thus, according to the 2018 census results, the population is 145,389. 53.17% of the population works in the agricultural sector. In the fourth chapter, which describes the settlement characteristics, the historical evolution of the settlement, use of the land and the residential properties are discussed. The properties of traditional and today's houses in Ereğli are explained. The fifth chapter of the thesis describes the economic characteristics of Ereğli. Ereğli Plain has developed the branches of industry based on vegetable and animal production. In plant production, Starks Gold and Carrot (Daucus carota L.) are symbolic products taken from geographical indications. Due to its geographical location, the Central Anatolia and Mediterranean Regions and the road and rail transport network have developed. In the last part of the study, Ereğli 's problems and solution proposals are mentioned. Keywords: Herakleia, Konya Ereğli, Agriculture, Industry.
