Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the definition, source and classification of medical wastes have been made and it was aimed to evaluate the compliance with the provisions of the legislation by examining the information on medical waste management and disposal in Konya by investigating the effects on the environment and human health. Konya Medical Waste Sterilization Facility, one of the first sterilization facilities of our country, is operated by the company to which Konya Metropolitan Municipality has transferred its authority with a contract. Medical wastes produced in all manner of health institutions operating in Konya area are collected and transported to the facility in accordance with the Medical Waste Control Regulation (MWCR). In the Medical Waste Sterilization Facility, which has been operating since 2008, service has also been provided to the province of Karaman between 2010-2018. In the facility with two sterilization devices, one of which is spare part, the wastes collected from health institutions and brought to the facility are sterilized with saturated steam at 3.5 bar pressure and 135oC temperature, subsequently stored in Konya Metropolitan Municipality Domestic Waste Regular Landfill Site for final disposal. With the researches and observations made, it has been indicated that Konya Medical Waste Sterilization Facility is an exemplary facility by working in accordance with the Medical Waste Control Regulation.
