COMPARING HEPARIN-COATED AND NON-COATED OXYGENATORS ONRENAL FUNCTIONS IN CORONARY ARTERY BYPASS SURGERYVIII. SUMMARY:Objective: Renal damage and subsequent acute renal failure is one of the mostimportant complications in patients who had cardiac surgery. Multicenter studies withthousands of patients which exposed the risk factors for acute renal failure has beenpublished especially in the last decade. The effects of extracorporeal circulation onrenal functions are closely related with complement activation. This study is designedfor evaluation of heparin-coated and non-coated oxygenators on the renal functions.Methods: This study has been performed prospectively with 50 patients whohad undergone coronary bypass surgery in Inönü Univercity Turgut Ozal MedicalCenter cardiovascular surgery clinic from March 2006 to September 2006. Thepatients have been divided into two groups as heparin-coated oxygenators used andnon-coated oxygenators used.Results: There are no statistical differences in the urine clarence inpostoperative and preoperative periods in both groups. In group one creatinin levelswere lower than group two at 24 hours after surgery and these differences werestatistically important. Also at the fourth day of the surgery creatinin levels were lower.There were no statistical differences between other evaluated parameters like BUN,creatinin, sodium, potassium, calcium, clor, phosphor, urine protein, urine clarence,urine sodium, urine calcium and urine clor at preoperative period in both groups.Conclusion: In this study we compared effects of heparin-coated and non-coated oxygenators on renal functions and we found that heparin coated oxygenatorshave no additional contrubution on renal functions.Key words: Renal function, Coronary artery bypass surgery, heparin-coatedoxygenators
