Abstract (EN)

İntroduction and Aim: Evaluations in previous studies has been made upon therelation of epicardial adipose tissue thickness and carotid intima-media thickness withcoronary artery disease .İn our study,we interrogated the relation of epicardial adiposetissue together with carotid intima-media thickness to coronary artery disease. Methods and Materials: Fifthy patients (36 men,16 women) who underwentelective diagnostic coronary angiography were studied.Epicardial fat thickness wasmeasured with transthoracic echocardiography and carotid intima-media thickness withvascular ultrasonography in all patients.Demographic and anthropometricmeasurements were recorded. Results:İt was demonstrated that an increase in epicardial fat thickness andcarotid intima-media thickness was a risk increasing factor for coronary arterydisease.Male sex was found a risk factor for coronary artery disease.Body mass index ,diabetes mellitus and hypertension were not found statistically an important risk factorfor coronary artery disease. Conclusion: An increase in epicardial fat thickness is a risk factor for coronaryartery disease.Carotid intima-media thickness increases in those with coronary arterydisease. Thus,an increase in epicardial fat thickness and carotid intima-media thicknessis correlated with an increase in coronary artery disease.Key words: Risk factors for coronary artery disease, epicardial adipose tissuethickness, carotid intima-media thickness.
