Determination of the factors affecting diabetes self-care behaviors of the patients with TYPE 2 diabetics with and without diagnosi̇s of coronary artery disease

Objective: To determine the diabetes self-care behaviors and related factors of type 2 diabetes patients with and without diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease. Method: The sample group consisted of 185 patients with diagnosis of type 2 diabetes who were hospitalized in Cardiology Clinic of Izmir DokuzEylul University Research and Practice Hospital and 250 Type 2 Diabetes patients who applied to Izmir Family Health Center, Karabaglar No 17. Research data were collected from January to April 2015. To collect data, the Diabetic Individual Diagnosis Form and Diabetes Self-Care Activities Questionnaire developed by the researcher were used. Statistical analyses were performed using number, percentage, T-Test, Mann Whitney U Test, Kruskal Wallis Test and One WayAnova. Results:According to data analysis, no statistically significant difference was found between diabetes and self-care scores between patients with and without diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease. When we analyze people with diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease, factors affecting diabetes and self-care scores are BMI, educational status, type of diabetes treatment, and diabetes education level. The factors affecting patients without diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease are gender, BMI, educational status, the persons she/he lives, the type of diabetes treatment and diabetes education level. Conclusion: As a result of the study; It has been observed that individuals with type 2 diabetes with and without diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease do not have adequate diabetes self-care behaviors. It is recommended to provide diabetes self-care behaviors to all individuals with type 2 diabetes and to ensure the continuity of diabetes education. Keywords: diabetes, coronary artery, self-care
