Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY Comparison of Plasma Atherogenic Index in Patients with and Without Coronary Artery Ectasia Dr. Sezer Markirt, SpecialityThesis, ADIYAMAN, 2024 Objective: The aim of this thesis was to investigate the importance of plasma atherogenic index, which is calculated by the logarithm of the ratio of plasma triglycerides (TG) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels, in the prediction of coronary artery ectasia by comparing patients with and without coronary artery ectasia regarding this index. Methods: A total of 140 patients, including 70 patients with isolated coronary artery ectasia (CAE) and 70 patients with normal coronary arteries, who underwent coronary angiography between January 2019 and September 2023 in Adıyaman University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiology, were included in our study. Demographic characteristics and laboratory findings of the patients were compared. Plasma atherogenic indices of all cases were calculated using lipid parameters obtained in routine laboratory examinations. Results: In our study, 23(32.9%) of the patients with coronary artery ectasia were female and 47(67.1%) were male. The mean age of the study population was 55.5±10.8 years, 56.8±10.5 years in the coronary artery ectasia group and 54.2±10.9 years in patients with normal coronary arteries. When demographic data were analysed, no significant difference was found between the two groups in other parameters except hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Plasma Atherogenic Index was statistically significantly higher in the group with coronary artery ectasia (0.50±0.20 vs 0.65±0.22, p<0. 001). In the multivariate analysis for the predictors of coronary ectasia; plasma atherogenic index was found to be significant than hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and high creatinine levels (OR= 5.384, 2.350-12.337, 95% Cl, p<0.001). Conclusion: As a result of our study, plasma atherogenic index was found to be statistically significantly increased in the group with CAE compared to the group with normal coronary arteries. In addition, plasma atherogenic index was found to be a more significant predictor in multivariate analyses compared to hypertension, diabetes mellitus, high creatinine levels. Based on these data, plasma atherogenic index may be used as a predictor for CAE. Keywords: Coronary Artery Ectasia, Plasma Atherogenic Index
