Abstract (EN)

Credit card utilization in the world and in Turkey has become widespread. Number of credit cards issued in abroad has nearly seventy two million. In this study, credit card agreement between issuer and cardholder and the issues arising from the agreement have been covered. If the cardholder is a consumer, applicable law may vary. Applicable laws as per card holder status, are described where it is appropriate. There are five sections in this study and general aspects of credit card system have been covered in the first section. In the second section the general framework of the credit card agreement, parties and legal type are explained. In the third section establishment, legal form, content and termination of the agreement are covered. The issuer's main obligation is to enable the cardholder to make purchase transactions via credit card and cardholder's main obligation is to pay card debt to the issuer. Those obligations have been covered in the fourth section. In the last section, legal consequences are explained in case of failure of obligations arising from credit card agreement together with ways of dispute solutions. As a conclusion, the results reached are outlined at the end of the study.
