Determination of promising walnut types in Kyrgyzstan's Zhalal Abad Province, Kara - Alma Forest area

Abstract (EN)

In present study, walnut types grown from seeds in Kyrgyzstan, Zhalal Abad province, Kara - Alma natural walnut forests were investigated during the years 2015-2016 to select the promising types with regard to superior fruit characteristics. During the selection process, fruit samples of 120 disease-free types with fruit loads more than normal were collected in the years 2015. Ġn study which executed in altitudes between 1600 - 1900 m according to weigh rating results tipes which get to points of 70 and above have been identified as promising. Considering the selection criteria, 19 of them were selected as promising types. Fruit weights of selected types varied 7.82-11.31 g, endocarp weights varied between 3.83-5.40 g, endocarp ratios between 39.37-54.98%, wall thickness between 1.08-1.85 mm, fruit setting ratio over side-branches between 0-60 %. Among the selected types, 9 were dichogamious and 10 were homogamious; and among dichogamious ones 6 were protogyny and 3 were protandry flowering characteristics.
