Effect of crystallographic orientation on ionic conductivity of Li(1+x)AlxTi(2-x)(PO4)3 solid electrolytes

In this thesis, enhancement of ionic conductivity of Li(1+x)AlxTi(2-x)(PO4)3 (LATP) solid electrolyte material that has potential to use in lithium ion solid state batteries was aimed. Within this context, ionic conductivity change with changing crystallographic orientation in LATP was investigated and it was found that the increased ionic conductivity was observed on the direction which has magnetic susceptibility. LATP solid electrolyte material was produced by melt quenching and solid state reaction methods. The samples that were subjected to magnetic orientation treatment were produced by slip casting of solid state reacted powders and these samples were prepared by appling magnetic field parallel and perpendicular to slip casting direction under 0 T and 12 T magnetic field. Bulk densities of produced samples were determined based on Archimedes' water immersion principle. Phase and chemical analyses were performed by XRD and EDX methods. The crystallographic orientation of the samples produced under magnetic field was calculated by scrutinizing of XRD analyses by using Lotgering Factor. Microstructural investigations were carried out by using scanning electron microscopy and lastly, ionic conductivity values were measured by using electrochemical impedance spectrometer method. As a result of performed work, ionic conductivity value could be increased about 10-fold by obtaining orientation of LATP crystals at the ratio of around 78%.
