Abstract (EN)

Chronic hepatitis C (HCV), chronic hepatitis B (HBV) and Non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are common liver diseases. Pin-1 protein plays role in isomerization and is involved in different inflammatory process. There are no enough data concerning the role of Pin-1 in HCV, HBV and NASH diseases. It has been shown that Pin-1 takes place in steatosis, inflammatory and fibrosis processes in some rat models. The aims of this study are to evaluate the importance of serum Pin-1 levels of patients with NASH, HBV, HCV and healthy controls, to investigate the association between Pin-1 levels and hitopathological features and whether Pin-1 could be a predicting factor of advanced liver fibrosis or not. Sixty six HCV, 28 HBV, 55 NASH and 29 healthy controls who fullfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the study. Histopathological evaluation for HCV and HBV was done by using Ishak scoring system and Brunt scoring system was also used for NASH. Serum Pin-1 protein levels among control, HBV, HCV and NASH were 27,11±7,07; 27,79± 11,69; 35,72±14,33 and 43,56±20,88, respectively, and there was statistically significant difference P < 0,001. When we compared values between groups after Bonferroni corrections the results were as follows: HBV-control; P = 0,64, HCV-control; P = 0,003, NASH-control P < 0,001, HBV-HCV; P = 0,017, HBV-NASH; P < 0,001 and HCV-NASH; P = 0,05. The highest values were in NASH group while the lowest were in the control group. Ther were statistically significant coorelations between histopathologic fetaures of chronic hepatitis (NIA and fibrosis) and serum Pin-1 protein levels P < 0,001. When we investigated the correlations between histopathologic features of NASH (inflammation, steatosis, balooning and fibrosis) and serum Pin-1 protein levels there were also significant correlations P < 0,001. We analysed the prediciton of advanced liver fibrosis in NASH patients.Serum Pin-1 level was an independent predicting risk factor in multivariate logistic regression analysis OR:1,052, %95 CI: (1,014-1,091), P = 0,008. In conclusion, serum Pin-1 protein may play role in the physiopathology of chronic hepatitis and NASH patients and also it is a predicting factor of advanced liver fibrosis due to NASH.
