Adenovirus IgG and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) IgG in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease which the most important symptom part is exacerbation.Most of the exacerbations are triggered by respiratory viruses and bacteria that infect the lower respiratory tract and important for inflammation.In this thesis study,it was aimed to determine the seroprevalence of respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) and adenovirus agents in attacks and exacerbations that increase in seasonal COPD patients.Seroprevalence of RSV and Adenovirus IgG was investigated byELISA method in serum samples taken from 172 patients(107male/65female) over 40years of age and treated with of COPD.In the RSVIgG study,42% of the samples were positive,49.4% were negative.When sex of RSVIgG was evaluated, 38 of107 male patients and 35 of65 female patients were positive.When the individual data were evaluated RSV IgG in terms of sex,107 male patients,35.5%(n=38) from 65 to53.8% of female patients(n=35) was positive.In adenovirusIgG study, 30,2% of the samples were positive, 59,3% negative.30%(n=32) of 107 male patients and 30.8% (n=20)of 65 female patients were positive for Adenovirus IgG when evaluated in terms of gender. In addition, 23(13.4%) of 172 patients were found to have both RSV and adenoviruscoexistence.There was a statistically significant difference(p <0.05) in terms of gender(male/female)in COPD patients and patients with positive viral cause.In this thesis study,the prevalence of specific immune response developed in individuals against RSV and adenovirus,which play a role in COPD attacks and exacerbations, has been revealed.We anticipate that taking care of administering an efficacy-specific vaccine as treatment for the elimination of viral agents that increase the severity of exacerbations seen inCOPD patients.
