Abstract (EN)

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prediction of chronic pelvic pain on preterm delivery rate and route in women with chronic pelvic pain before pregnancy.Material and Methods: Fifty seven pregnant women who admitted to Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Obstetrics prenatal care outpatient clinic between September 2009 and December 2010, and having high visual analog scale (VAS) and history of chronic pelvic pain before pregnancy, were enrolled to this study. All pregnant women were evaluated with international pelvic pain assessment form (IPPAF).Results: The mean score of VAS was found to be 7.90 ± 1.04 in Group I and in Group II 7.90 ± 1.04 (p>0.05). With regard to gynecologic disorders, pain at ovulation (mid-cycle), dismenorrea, level of cramps with period, suspicious of endometriosis were determined to be higher in the preterm Group (Group II) (p<0.05, p<0.05, p<0.05, p<0.05, respectively). With regard to urologic disorders, the mean of pain when bladder is full, pain with urination, the question ?Does your urgency bother you? ? and suspicious of intertittiel cystitis were determined to be higher in the preterm Group (Group II) (p<0.05, p<0.05, p<0.05, p<0.05, respectively). The comparison of total IPPAF score was statistically significant (38.33 ± 12.94 for group I vs. 52.43 ± 12.60 for group II, p<0.05). In group I, 72% of women delivered vaginally, while this rate was 61.9% in group II (p>0.05). The cesarean delivery ratee were 27.8% in group I, 38.1% in group II (p>0.05). Considering the women delivered vaginaly, the patients delivered in preterm gestation had high IPPAF score than patient delivered in term gestation (56.38 ± 10.21 for group I vs. 39.69 ± 12.22 for group II, p<0.05). The women having high pre-pregnancy total IPPAF score may have high probability to deliver in preterm gestation.Key Words: Preterm labor, Chronic pelvic pain, Cesarean delivery, Risk factors, Inflamation.
