Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Purpose: Occupational accidents are injuries that occur as a result of an unexpected accident or injury while working in a workplace or during transportation to that workplace by service and causing harm to the employee. Occupational accidents are an important cause of mortality and morbidity in our country and in the world. In addition, the economic dimension of occupational accidents is also important due to the treatment costs and workforce losses of these accidents. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the demographic information, injury characteristics, injury types, injury type, injury severity and treatment needs of patients who had an occupational accident who applied to Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Training and Research Hospital. Materials and Methods: The data of this study were obtained by retrospectively examining the files of 1868 patients who were brought to the Emergency Service of Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Training and Research Hospital as a work accident and whose work accident report was kept, and the demographic characteristics of the patients and the information about the injury were evaluated statistically. Results: In our study, a total of 1868 patients who applied to the emergency department due to work accident were evaluated. 91.9% of the patients were male patients and 8.1% were females. Patients applied most frequently in August as a month (p<0.05), on Monday (17% and p<0.05) as a day, and most frequently between 10.00-12.00 in the morning (p<0.05). ). Workers working in the organized industrial zone constituted the majority of the patients who applied to the emergency department due to a work accident (p<0.05). Penetrating injuries were the most common type of injury (p<0.05), most commonly localized penetrating injuries to the hand and face (p<0.05). In the evaluation of these patients, x-ray was used the most (54.76%) as the imaging method, and 27.19% of these patients were treated with primary repair (p<0.05). No consultation was required for the treatment of 87.5% (n=1634) of the patients (p<0.05). The treatment of 96.8% of the patients was completed in the emergency department and they were discharged from the outpatient clinic (p<0.05). The final report of 44.2% of the patients was prepared in the emergency department, followed by the orthopedic clinic with 31.4% (p<0.05). Conclusion: Occupational accidents are an important public health problem in our country and in the world. In this study, it was determined that occupational accidents were observed mostly in August as the month in which they were observed the most, and that they occurred mostly on Mondays and in the morning. In this study, occupational accidents were mostly observed as localized penetrating injuries, and anatomically, they were mostly observed in the hand and face region. According to this study, although the death rate due to occupational accidents is low, death due to occupational accidents is unfortunately high throughout the country. We believe that the precautions to be taken and the trainings to be made about occupational accidents will reduce these deaths and injuries. Key words: occupational accident, emergency service, injury, death, occupational health and safety.
