Abstract (EN)

Objectives: The aim of this experimental study is to find out and compare the effects of CAPE, major antioxidant and antiinflammatory component of propolis and sesamol, major antioxidant component of sesamum indicum on split thichkness skin graft donor site healing. Material and Methods: This study was conducted with 24 Sprague Dawley rats as every group contained 8 subjects .Split thickness skin grafts were harvested from dorsal skin of every rodent to create donor site. First group was determined as control group and only saline was applied daily for donor site healing. Other groups were determined as study groups. In study groups caffeic acid fenetyl ester (CAPE) and sesamol were used as topical dressing. Surface measurements were done with on 3rd, 7th and 14th days and wound contractions were calculated. All subjects were sacrified on the day wound reepitelisation was complete. Dorsal skin of the subjects were excised and specimens were examined histopathologically. Results: In statistical analysis comparing control and CAPE groups, the days wound reepitelisation totally occured were lesser in CAPE group and wound contraction measurements on 14th day were greater, these data were statistically significant. In sesamol group compared to control group, numeric data was different but these were not statistically sicnificant. Conclusion: Using CAPE, that has positive effects on wound healing as proven in literature has the same positive effects on split thickness donor site wound healing. In conclusion it's thought that experiments using more subjects can be statistically significant to prove positive effects of sesamol on wound healing.
