Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Objective: Various studies on trauma injuries have shown that the origin of trauma differs between genders. In our study, we aimed to raise awareness about morbidity and mortality levels in cases of traumatic injuries and violence against women by examining the age, trauma origin, by whom the injury was inflicted, the place where the injury occurred, the season when the injury occurred, and the injured anatomical body region by examining the traumatic female cases aged 18 years and over who applied to KTU Medical Faculty Farabi Hospital Emergency Department between 2020-2021. Material and Method: The study is a cross-sectional descriptive study and was conducted by retrospectively examining the files of female patients aged 18 years and over who applied to the Emergency Department of KTU Medical Faculty Farabi Hospital between 2020 and 2021 in electronic and physical environment. Results: Of the 243 patients admitted as a result of trauma, 66 patients (27.2%) were between 18-29 years of age, 51 patients (21%) were between 30-39 years of age, 29 patients (11.9%) were between 40-49 years of age, 37 patients (15.2%) were between 50-59 years of age, 29 patients (11%) were between 50-59 years of age, and 29 patients (11%) were between 50-59 years of age, 9% of the patients were in the age range of 60-69 years, 21 patients (8.6%) were in the age range of 70-79 years, and the most common cause of trauma in 86 patients (35.4%) was blunt trauma, followed by falls in 58 patients (23.9%) and burns in 42 patients (17.3%). It was determined that 91.9% of the cases were blunt trauma, the most common cause of trauma in the age range of 18-49 years, and the most common trauma was inflicted at home and by spouses. When analysed in terms of progression, it was determined that the most common intervention was performed in the emergency department. Conclusion: In female patients aged 18 years and older, all trauma origins, especially assault injuries, which are the most common trauma origin, and cases of violence against women are a situation that should be examined forensically. Factors that prevent traumas and violence and risk factors that pave the way for their occurrence should be examined, awareness should be raised on healthcare professionals in cases of forensic traumatic injuries and forensic reporting obligations should not be forgotten. Key Words: Traumatic Injury, Violence Against Women, Forensic Medicine.
