Abstract (EN)

Secure communication between devices becomes harder to achieve with classical methods due to increase in computational speed of computers. Goal of Quantum Key Distribution is sent entangled photon pairs with entangled photon source (EPS) to two or more terminals and create a secure key to use in classical public channels between terminals. EPS sends five million entangled photon pairs to each terminal to create a single key. For this complex and time critical processing operations, a central process unit (CPU) is not efficient enough. So every single operation that needs to be done in a pipeline architecture design with field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) to obtain this inherently secure key in a reasonable time frame for use in public channels. Hardware implementation of quantum key distribution has multiple sub problems. Some of these problems are clock synchronization between terminals, calculation of time shift between terminal with entangled photon pairs, error correction in each terminal with received entangled photon pairs and generating a secure key with received entangled photon pairs from EPS. This thesis covers explanation of a quantum key distribution systems, an architectural design to create a quantum key distribution system with FPGAs, and a methodology for absolute verification of the final implemented system with FPGAs.
