Abstract (EN)

Jerusalem has central importance for all the revelation religions. Due to its sanctity, it has been the target of many states throughout history and has changed hands many times. Only with the control of the Muslims, people of all religions in the region found peace and lived prosperously in Jerusalem for 13 centuries. Jerusalem, where the Palestinian-Israeli conflict takes place today, is missing the justice when they experienced during the Turkish-Islamic Civilization. There are different legal and diplomatic views on the status of Jerusalem in the international arena. States and experts also have different perspectives on the status of Jerusalem. However, almost all UN member states and international organizations have agreed that Israel's control of East Jerusalem after the 1967 Six-Day War, and the Jerusalem Law, enacted in 1980 which stipulates that Jerusalem as a whole is Israel's capital, are illegal. On December 6, 2017, US President Trump did not veto the Jerusalem Act enacted in the US Senate in 1995 and declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He also ordered the relocation of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This irresponsible act was rejected by the overwhelming majority of votes in the UN General Assembly led by the Turkish government. Trump's decision was received a huge negative reaction from almost all countries around the world. The enactment of the USA's Jerusalem Law received wide media coverage in the world as well. The Turkish Published Media was also very interested in the Jerusalem issue. This thesis will focus on the news that has been published in the Turkish written press and aim to explain their approaches to this issue. Hürriyet, Sözcü and Yeni Şafak newspapers were chosen as samples. Our research regarding Trump's Jerusalem decision was carried out through the opinion of columnists since their opinions are more effective to influence people's thoughts.
