Abstract (EN)

Hevsel Gardens, which was included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 2015 as "Diyarbakır Walls and Hevsel Gardens Cultural Landscape Area", is an important natural and cultural heritage area for the city of Diyarbakır. The aim of the study was to examine Hevsel Gardens within the scope of cultural heritage, with its contribution to the development of cultures as well as agricultural activities throughout its 8000-year history. Hevsel Gardens, fed by the Tigris River and located together with the Diyarbakır Walls, are also effective in the cultural development of the city. In this context, documents, artifacts and academic studies related to Hevsel Gardens and the living spaces around it were analyzed and traces of cultural heritage were traced; A field analysis consisting of documentary photographs was carried out in Hevsel Gardens and Suriçi. In the study, cultural heritage elements of the gardens; An attempt was made to document natural life, livelihoods, living creatures and architectural structures. It has been observed that gardens are facing industrialization and there is a decrease in the variety of products grown in gardens. It has been suggested that the existence of Hevsel Gardens is at risk and that various measures should be taken to protect it.
