Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT THE CONCEPT OF BARZAKH IN THE QUR'AN Fatma KAYA Department of Basic Islamic Sciences Adıyaman University, Institute of Graduate Education, 2025 Advisor: Prof. Dr. Hüseyin ÇELİK In the context of the verse, "Every soul will taste death," everyone will sooner or later face the reality of death. Death and the afterlife have been topics of curiosity, research, and debate throughout human history. The subject's extension into the metaphysical realm has sustained the debate and kept it relevant to this day. The concept of barzakh, which refers to the period between death and resurrection, is used to refer to the realm between this world and the afterlife and the life in the grave. In this context, questions about the barzakh in general, and the life in the grave in particular, have been raised regarding its punishment, blessings, and its nature. In this study, after we examined the lexical and terminological meanings of the concept of barzakh, to establish a conceptual framework, we then explained the meanings of concepts related to barzakh, such as makbar, cedes, merkad, grave, mashhad, and grave, and we also provided a brief overview of the views of those who accept and reject life in the grave. Next, the concept of barzakh was discussed, with reference to relevant commentaries. The narrations in the hadiths regarding issues such as life in the grave, its punishment and blessings were examined and the subject was tried to be discussed in a holistic manner. Key Words: Exegesis, Qur'an, Death, Barzakh, Grave
