Azdad in the Qur'an and its reflection in Turkish translations

Azdad means expressing two opposite words with the same word. Since the late second century of the Hijra, it has been one of the most debated topics among linguists in the Arabic language. Antonyms are generally expressed with two separate words in other languages. However, in Arabic, because two opposite words are expressed with the same word, it differs from other languages. The subject of this study is the reflection of azdad and azdad in Turkish translations of the Quran and Arabic. In presenting the study's topic, detailed research has been conducted, drawing on classical and modern sources. Verses in which azdad words are used are also explained and analyzed. The discussion of azdad words in the Quran is limited to one example. While some linguists consider azdad to be a beauty of the Arabic language, others have argued that azdad creates ambiguity in meaning, alienating Arabic from a truly fluent language. This study is limited to forty-five translations written in Turkish. The purpose of this study is to determine whether Turkish interpreters acknowledge the use of azdad when translating certain verses containing azdad words into Turkish. This study concludes that Turkish interpreters interpret the words azdad in contrasting meanings, while others interpret them with a single meaning. Verses that convey both opposite meanings are generally expressed with the conjunction "and." It concludes that context is as important as understanding the meanings of azdad words in the Quran.
