An analytical approach to lawful sustenance in the Qur'ân

In this study, the concept of sustenance (rizq) is examined from the perspective of the Qur'ān. In the first chapter, the concept of rizq and other related terms mentioned alongside it in relevant verses are explained. The second chapter discusses the sources of sustenance, the types of lawful (ḥalāl) and unlawful (ḥarām) sustenance, the material and spiritual aspects of sustenance, and the effects of lawful and unlawful sustenance on individuals, families, and society in both material and spiritual terms. Furthermore, the ways to increase lawful sustenance and the material and spiritual significance of lawful earning in human life, as well as its contribution to social order, are elaborated upon. Throughout the study, the sayings of the Prophet (ḥadīths) and the views of both classical and modern exegetes (mufassirūn) have been utilized. In line with this objective, classical and contemporary tafsīr sources have been reviewed, and the differing opinions of various Islamic schools of thought have been taken into account to investigate the subject in detail. As a result, this study demonstrates the importance of lawful sustenance in terms of personal morality, spirituality, social justice, and Islamic principles. It also emphasizes that raising awareness and sensitivity on this issue will contribute to social peace and prosperity. Keywords: Quran, Tafsir, Halal, Haram, Sustenance, Spirituality.
