"Ahl al-Bayt" interpretations in Qur'an exegesis –in particular to Shia and non-Shia interpretations

In our study, we tried to determine the data about Ahl al-Bayt in Shia and non-Shia tafsir sources. We aimed to reveal the verses that are thought to have been revealed about Ahl al-Bayt in Shia and non-Shia tafsir, interpreted as Ahl al-Bayt and declaring the virtues of Ahl al-Bayt, the interpretations of the verses and the narrations brought as evidence to support the interpretations. In the first part of our study, we tried to examine the periodic meaning of the phrase Ahl al-Bayt. We determined that the phrase was used in different meanings in each period and that its meaning changed according to the political and religious environment of each century. In the second part of our study, we examined the interpretations and narrations of the verses interpreted with Ahl al-Bayt in non-Shia classical narrations and acumen tafsir. Non-Shia commentators have considered all of the verses and narrations about the Ahl al-Bayt to be about the virtues of the Ahl al-Bayt without paying much attention to who they clearly refer to from the Ahl al-Bayt. In the third section of our study, we examined the interpretations of the Shia. First of all, we determined that almost all of the verses interpreted as Ahl al-Bayt in non-Shia interpretations were also interpreted as Ahl al-Bayt in Shia interpretations. However, we did not include these in the section where we examined the Shia interpretations in order not to repeat ourselves. We have identified many more verses interpreted as "Ahl al-Bayt" or "Ahl al-Bayt imams" in Shia sources. While interpreting every verse about the Ahl al-Bayt, Shia commentators have made great efforts to ensure that it is known who the Ahl al-Bayt individuals are. Because these names will be the imams, or leaders, of the ummah. In the interpretations of Shiite commentaries, in addition to the question of who the verses refer to, we have seen that the desire to have the "Ahl al-Bayt" in the verses be people whose belief and thought system they have expressed is also reflected in the commentaries. Some of the narrations included in the interpretation of the verses as Ahl al-Bayt are not intended to reveal the meaning of the verse, but can be evaluated as examples given to exemplify the field of meaning of the verse or as sample interpretations made during the period when the commentary was written. There are also other interpretations of some verses and narrations supporting these interpretations. In our study, we tried to determine the Ahl al-Bayt interpretations and the narrations supporting these interpretations. We did not compare the interpretations and the narrations supporting the interpretations and made a preference.
