The impact of global climate change on poverty: An investigation in a case study pattern

In the last two decades, the issue of global warming and climate change has been on the agenda. Global warming is not actually a new problem. With the Industrial Revolution, the continuous increase in carbon emissions released into the atmosphere with the industrialization process of the world, especially in European Countries, has led to a change in the world's climates. This change is felt in different ways around the world. While global climate change causes extreme weather events, floods and floods in some regions, it causes severe drought in some regions. While climate change causes environmental effects such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, drought and extraordinary warming, it also causes socioeconomic problems such as migration, hunger, health problems and poverty. As a matter of fact, it is stated in the researches that global warming will lead to an increase in poverty in the coming years. Poverty caused by global warming makes its presence felt all over the world, especially in Africa, South Asia and Latin America. Global warming also negatively affects the successes achieved in the fight against poverty. Disadvantaged groups in need of protection in the society are most exposed to poverty, especially the elderly, women, children and the disabled. Poverty reduction is arguably one of the most important strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change on the poor. Limiting poverty can make the poor and other marginalized less vulnerable and more resilient to many of the negative effects of climate change. Undoubtedly, climate change poses a significant risk to sustainable development for many countries. Adding to the burden of the already poor and vulnerable, it will also impact governments' capacity to cope with and adapt to the severe impacts of climate change. However, it is possible to avoid the worst effects if serious measures are taken against the negativities caused or may be caused by climate change and if they are implemented quickly without wasting time. In this way, it is possible to create a safer future for all segments, especially the most vulnerable, the poor.
