Abstract (EN)

The idea of nationalism which has established its existence and influence with the French Revolution, expresses certain geographical borders, ethnic understanding and cultural codes, and corresponds to nation-state formation in political sphere, today it can be seen that it has revived by transforming into different nationalist discourses and types under the influence of globalisation. In this context, examining the relationship between the globalisation process and the idea of nationalism constitutes the starting point for those who want to explain the socio-political field in the recent period. Seen that researches based on here focus on the public diplomacy practices of nation-states, frequently prefer in their communication methods. Because the importance of the public in the political sphere is expanding and this is increasingly of interest to nation-states. This thesis is an examination of the interaction linking the scientific-technological advances of the last centuries and the globalisation process with the idea of nationalism, the formation of the nation-state and its frequently used foreign policy method; public diplomacy. In this study, critical discourse analysis technique is adopted, and how nationalist discourses are used by public diplomacy tools in the context of ideological language is revealed within the framework of Norman Fairclough's "dialectical relationship analysis". With the analysis of discourses carried out by examining the discourses in the bulletins of Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, one of the first public diplomacy tools of Turkey, is evaluated that nationalist thought constantly opens fields for itself and strengthens its presence through various discursive tools and social practices.
