Effects of globalization in textile and fashion industry

Abstract (EN)

The new world order, which has been formed by the globalization process of the world economy, significantly affected many industrial fields. One of these fields is the textile industry, which is one of the leading sector of the world economy. The most visible effects that globalization brings us are the rapid expansion of fashion, changes in consumer habits, the worldwide movement of textiles, a homogenous concept of fashion and clothing and modern formations taking the place of traditional clothing.This study is conducted with the literature search, evaluation of the archives, direct interview and surveys. The utilizes archive reports and statistical documents of many organizations such as ITKIB (Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Associations), DPT (State Planning Organization), MUSIAD (Independent Industrialists? and Businessmen's Association) and WTO (World Trade Organization) were studied.In particular, the literature research, concerning the history of textiles was made within ?University College Falmouth? which is located in the United Kingdom / Cornwall.In the first chapter, the concept of globalization will be examined in light of the process of historical development and the effects of various perspectives. In addition, the effects of globalization will be examined regarding economy, culture, politics and society.In the second and third chapters, the development and effects of globalization in the textile industry will be examined through the leading countries in this sector. .These two chapters will include an outline of the work. Such effects as thereflection of the concept of globalization on the fashion and textile industry and changing consumer habits will be examined through textile and fashion consumers. In the fourth chapter, the entrance of new techniques used and quality products, which are known as "smart textiles" in the textile industry, will be examined in connection with globalization. In the fifth section, international cooperation established by the Turkish textile and ready-wear sector to continue in its movement in global markets and organization relations of ITKIB are examined. In conclusion, it will be explained how globalization effects the textile industry and how it changes consumer habits, as well as in which direction all the research and investigations go.
