Abstract (EN)

Reviewing gradual changes of natural resources helps future planning for decision maker in forestry. In the decision making mechanism is important to knowledge of the changes in the forests. In this study, development stage, crown closeness and the gradual changes of land use classes are analyzed by using 1987 and 2006 forest management plans Kürtün Forest Planning Unit is under Torul Regional Directorate of Forestry. Kürtün Dam is included in the study field that was opened in 2004. The effects of the Kürtün Dam on the forests after its construction is tried to be determined. The socio-economic effects of the dam on the people living in the region are analyzed with the change in the planning. In addition, the effect of socio-economic change on the forests is determined in relation to population, climate, agriculture, and stock farming. By deciding on the demand and expectations for the forests, some suggestions are given. The total area of Kurtun Forest Management Chieftaincy is 15525.9 hectares. According to date from 1987 management plans, the areas were consisted of 32.0% of the productive forest, 19.6% of degraded forests, 33.2% of pasture field, 2.1% of residential area, and 10.0% of agricultural area. In 2006, there has been no change in the boundaries of the Chieftaincy. According to date from 2006 the management plans, when analyzed the distribution of land use classification, the areas were consisted of 32.2% of the productive forests, 16.7% of degraded forests, 36.3% of forest land, residential land 0.4% and 13.5% of the agricultural area. Consequently, it has been seen an increase of 33.9 hectares of productive forest area and a decrease in 447.5 hectares of degraded forest areas. One of the reasons for this decrease in is that, after building Kurtun dam, 104.9 hectares of degraded forest land was transformed into bodies of water. With pasture land law, areas removed from the pasture substantially returned to forest and agricultural areas. There have been positive developments in terms of social and economic. On the one hand fish farms were established in the dam, on the other hand accommodation facilities and walking paths around the dam are made. Fishing has become one of the people's livelihood.
