Impact of corporate governance practices on firm performances

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of board structures and ownership structures (capital density and free float) on firm performance, one of the most important indicators of corporate governance. For this purpose, data of 76 firms operating in BIST 100 between 2012 - 2017 (456 observations) were used. Data were analyzed by panel data analysis method and STATA 14 program. According to the results of the analysis, there is a negative and statistically significant relationship between capital concentration and return on equity.There is a positive and statistically significant relationship between the number of board members, ratio of independent board members and ratio of female board members and EBIT, and there is a negative and statistically significant relationship with capital concentration; It is seen that there is a negative and statistically significant relationship between the ratio of female members on the board of directors and Tobin's Q and finally there is a positive and statistically significant relationship between the concentration of capital and Tobin's Q.
