Investigating intergenerational perspectives on the accounting profession: The example of Burdur province

It is seen that the accounting profession has changed over the years and is affected by the events during the period, the structure of the society, and the policies and attitudes of the state. As a result of this influence, it is known that the perception of accounting varies among individuals. Perceptions about the accounting profession consist of six basic dimensions. These; They are listed as ethics, expertise, leadership, vitality, visibility and openness. The ethical dimension of the dimensions; honesty, fairness, justice, etc. Contains ideas. The aim of the study is to examine the accounting perception of generations, starting from the lost generation, in order to see the changes and to what extent the perception has changed between generations. The population of the study is determined by individuals living in Burdur provinces, districts and villages in order to determine the changes in the long-term process, which is divided into multi-dimensional accounting perception, lost generation, silent generation, baby boomers, X generation, Y generation, millennium generation, Z generation, alpha generation. In the study, 4.837 surveys were sent via Google forms and 475 surveys were conducted face to face. A total of 1.314 people were interviewed on a voluntary basis, using Google Form and a face-to-face survey scale, the level of evidence of which was previously reviewed and approved. Data was collected in the first six months of 2023. In the first part of the survey, 8 questions about demographic characteristics were prepared, and in the second part, 25 statements regarding accounting perception were prepared using a 5-point Likert scale. Frequency distribution, Reliability Analysis, One Way Anova and Normality Test analyzes were performed on the data collected in accordance with the research purpose. The study found that individuals from Generation X, Y, Z, and Alpha in Burdur perceive Alpha Generation differently from other generations. The hypotheses H1, H2, H3, H4, and H5 were found to be significant, and the reliability analysis showed a high degree of reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.904.
