Abstract (EN)
Radon is a radioactive colorless, odorless, tasteless noble gas and therefore not detectable by human senses. Radon is created as part of radioactive decay chain of Uranium. It comprises approximately 50 percent of natural radiation we are exposed in our daily life. The Radon gas produced by the decay of Uranium in rocks diffuses into soil and then into atmosphere or environment. The concentration of Radon gas may reach to critical values if it accumulates. When humans exposure to high concentration of radon gas, many risks occurs especially lung cancer in view of health. The purpose of this study is to measure Radon radioactivity concentration in closed places around the Kütahya city center. The radioactivity concentration of 100 houses were measured by using LR-115 nuclear trace detectors..According to the results of investigations, it was that the radon concentration varies between 39-328 Bq/m3. Our results were compared with health limits and it is observed that measured Radon concentration in closed places are under their limits.
