Abstract (EN)

Due to the rapid increase in the world population, the energy consumption has also increased. Since the rapid decline of fossil based energy sources in which the major consumption requirement is met and their effect on global warming due to the sera gases; scientists concentrated their research on alternative renewable and eco-friendly energy sources. Among the renewable energy sources; hydraulic, solar, bio-mass, geothermal and wind energy have gained much importance in the past years.The wind energy is a clean renewable energy and does not depend on the fossil fuel. The wind power plants do not have air polluting emissions. In the conventional power plants, these kind of emissions causes the greenhouse effect, the acid rain and the global warming.Increasing demand for energy both in our country and in the world, the decrease in the availiable energy resources and some problems caused by some resources point out the importance of new and renewable energy resources.This study is based on the statistical analysis of the wind speed for Kütahya, Simav, Tavşanlı and Gediz regions. The wind speed changes are presented depending on the altitute and the installation height of the wind turbine. The calculations were made for 50 meters and 100 meters height values. In this study the site, which is the most suitable with respect to the wind potential was determined according to the wind data taken between the years 2000 ? 2009, which is provided by the official measurements and recordings from State Meteorology General Directorate for the mentioned regions.Keywords: The Wind, The Wind Speeds, Kutahya Province, The Wind Potential, The Wind Power Plants
