Abstract (EN)

After the radical reforms in the period Mahmud II., Tanzimat was announced and tax regulations were made. Until the Tanzimat period, non-Muslims and Muslims were charged under different names. With the declaration of the Tanzimat Edict in 1839, the legal, social and economic equality of the subjects were adopted and a single tax was adopted by regulating the taxes. The income of the subject had to be known for this newly introduced tax to be collected. For this purpose, "dividend" censuses (census, determination of the income and expenses of the people's goods and animals) were made in 1844-1845. Based on these censuses, taxpayers were identified. Therefore, the income and the amount of tax that people living in the villages or neighborhoods were determined. This study was conducted as a result of the evaluation of the notebooks of Ballıbaba, Kureyşler, Göynükören, Karadiğin and Pınarbaşı villages of Gireği District of Kütahya. The books were translated and the data were evaluated with tables and graphs. In the middle of the 19th century, five villages in the Aslanapa sub-district of Kütahya were generally engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. Agricultural activities and livestock are intended to meet the daily needs of people beyond commercial activity.
