Abstract (EN)
Earthquakes are complex phenomena when their occurrence reasons are investigated. Factors such as presence of a fault line and between earthquake relationships like foreschocks, mainshocks and afterschocks may be considered as some of the sources for this complexity. Estimation of the earthquake risk and modelling of the earthquake intensities over a region plays a vital role to minimize future tangible and intangible losses. In this study, a rectangular region including North Anatolian Fault Zone is selected as a study region in order to analyse the earthquake patterns. First of all, attributes of the moderate to major eartquakes with magnitude higher than 5, which is listed in the regarding time interval and space domain in the eartquake catalogue, is visualized owing to explaratory data analysis techniques. Furthermore, spatial and spatio-temporal patterns for the earthquakes are revealed and simulations of the earthquakes are realized with the use of spatial and spatio-temporal processes within the specified time and space domain. Finally, a model wihich is popular in the literature called spatio-temporal epidemic type aftershock model is employed to model the earthquakes by seperating the total eartquake intensity into two parts such as triggered and background event intensities. These intensities are found out to be changing over the region. In addition, eartquakes are fit in a clustered pattern spatially and a spatio-temporal regular pattern.
