Examination of attitudes and knowledge regarding to speech disorders of parents and teachers of children with and without speech disorder in TRNC- nicosia sample

The aim of this study is with relation to speech disorders, evaluation of attitudes and knowledge of parents and teachers of children with and without speech disorder in Nicosia, TRNC. Total number of participant is 191; 34 parents of children with speech disorder, 57 parents of children without speech disorder, 64 teachers who has at least one student with speech disorder, 36 teachers who do not have any student with speech disorder. This is a descriptive research, which uses a questionnaire as data collection tool. The questionnaire used in this study, is developed and carried out in the research of Toğram and Mavis (2009). With this questionnaire it is aimed to describe parents' and teachers' knowledge and attitudes for academic and social success of children with speech disorders and the cause/treatment of speech disorders. As the result of the research, it has been found that on academic and social success and therapy requirements of children with SLD, the attitudes of parents/teachers do not show any distinct differences between the group who engage in children with SLD and who does not. Besides, on participants' prioritized choices for the reasons of the SLD and therapy deficiencies, any difference was observed between the participant groups.
