The effect of olympic values education program (OVEP) applications in female students on "Respect" and "Friendship" perception

In the study, it was aimed to determine the effect of Olympic Values Education Program (OVEP) applications in female students studying at Edremit Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the district of Edremit, Van on "Respect" and "Friendship" perception. In the study, phenomenology approach which is one of the qualitative research methods was used. The participants of the study consists of 71 female 9th grade EMTAL students one of which is physically disabled and one of which belongs to inclusive education in the 2018-2019 school year. OVEP applications were carried out by planning for Physical Education and Sports lessons, within school extracurricular activities and extra-scholastic activities. The study used observation and focus group interviews. The principal, the assistant principal, the school counselor and the physical education teacher served as observers. To gather information from the participants, a focus group interview was carried out with 11 individuals one of which is a disabled student participating actively in the applications. The opinions of the participants were received by voice records and the records were written down. The analysis and coding of the interview were carried out by three field experts. As a result of reliability measurement, the unity between coders were found as r=0.76. The findings of the study revealed respect and friendship values of participants in OVEP applications along with happiness, self-confidence, realization, success, meeting, participation, demand and exemplifying themes. With this program which is student experience based, an increase in both the number of athletes and the variety of sports branches. Consequently, it was determined that the extent of acquisitions related to respect and friendship values expanded, that the students adapted lessons and sports in their daily lives, and that no discipline problems remained. The participants embraced the school, joined new sports branches and succeeded in both regional and national competitions by representing the school. It is suggested that OVEP applications be included in PE lessons and extracurricular activities and popularized.
