Abstract (EN)

Cutting performance of band saws is important to a good manufacturing process. The performance is determined from some factors such as cutting force, power consumption, energy consumption and wear. Generally, these values are obtained from experimental methods. It's necessary to know cutting performance to obtain efficient cutting process. In this study, tool performance was investigated in the cutting process of AISI 1020 material by using band saw used widely manufacturing industry. The study consists of two parts including theoretical and experimental. Cooling liquids (Boron oil) were used in the experiments and different cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed rate) were preferred. Power consumption, reaction forces and tooth fractures were determined in the cutting experiments. The reaction forces and the power consumption were measured using a dynamometer and energy analyzer, respectively. Tooth fractures in the cutting process were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition to, numerical analysis were performed using DEFORM 2D software program. Finally, theoretical and experimental results were compared.
