The effect of classical foot massage on vital signs, pain and nausea vomiting after laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Purpose: This research has been conducted to determine the effects of classical foot massage on vital signs, pain and nausea-vomiting after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Material and Method: This research is made between June 2017 and May 2018 at Elazığ Fırat University Hospital General Surgery Clinics as a quasi- experimental research with design of pre-test and post-test control groups. The population of research was made up the patients who were underwent Laparoscopic cholecystectomy operation depending on convenience to search criteria whereas, sample composed with 88 patients (44 trials, 44 controls) selected by means of power analysis and selected by random sampling method. Patient Identification, Vital Signs Registration, Pain and Nausea-Vomiting Evaluation Form were used as materials of data collection. Patients were taken to the study 1-6 hours after surgery. The patient identification was applied to the experimental group and after the evaluated vital signs, pain severity, and nausea-vomiting, classic foot massage is applied on for each foot for 5 minutes and their findings were recorded. For the control group, pre-test and post-test were performed without not applied classic foot massage and data were recorded. Number, Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, Chi-square, McNemar and paired sample t-test were used in the analysis of the data. Results: In according to the effect of the classic foot massage in experimental and control groups, it was found that there is significant difference in severity pain and nausea after the classic foot massage (p <0.05). Also, it was revealed that SBP, DBP and number of respiration were significantly different both before and after classic foot massage (p <0.05) and the measured parameters of classic foot massage positively affect. Conclusion: It was determined with classic foot massage that patient who underwent classic foot massage operation had, pain severity, nausea, SBP, DBP were decreased, respiratory rate was increased and circulation was affected.
