Scorpion venom Leirus Abdullahbayrami determining the level of lethal doses (LD50) in rats

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the medyan letal dose (LD50) of the scorpion species, Leirus abdullahbayrami that was a first record from the Southeastern Anatolia Region, was determined. A total of 20 samples were collected from June to July 2011 in Gaziantep province, Nizip distinct. Primarly, related permissions from the Local Ethics Committee on University of Gaziantep was obtained. Experimets were conducted on 155 mice provieded from the Animal Experimental Laboratory-Medicine Faculty of Gaziantep University. Electrical Stimulation and maceration methods were used to obtain the poison from the scorpion. In addition, LD50 calculations of each methods were done according to Trevor (1927), Behrens and Karber (1935), Miller and Tainter (1944) and Randhawa (2009). Consequently, in the case of maceration method, LD50 values of scorpion venom of Leirus abdullahbayrami were 5.75 mg/kg and 6,16±0,14 mg/kg with Behrens-Karber and Randhawa calculations, respectivelly. The 95% confidence interval was 6,02 ? 6,3. Electrical stimulation method resulted LD50 values of 3.94 mg/kg and 4,17±0,1 mg/kg for Behrens-Karber and Randhawa calculations, respectivelly. The 95% confidence interval was 4,07 ? 4,27. Key words: Scorpionism, Leirus abdullahbayrami, the medyan letal dose
