Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study, which examines The Levant Herald newspaper, is to follow the financial and commercial developments in the Ottoman Empire through the aforementioned newspaper news. The scope of the thesis is the weekly bulletins of the Levant Herald newspaper published in Istanbul between 1866-1870. When the newspaper is evaluated as a whole, it offers a lot of important information about the economic life of the Ottoman Empire with its news and article series. In particular, the close relationship between the Ottoman finance and trade sectors emerged. The close interest of the capital owners and merchants of European states in the Ottoman markets is evident in the news in the newspaper. The close relationship of business networks between Istanbul and other world financial-trade centers has also been clearly revealed. From the perspective of a foreign newspaper, the opportunity to evaluate the financial and commercial developments that took place in the Ottoman Empire in that period. In this respect, our study is shaped around the aim of presenting news, information and being a source for future studies rather than an analysis-evaluation study.
