Layla al-Uthman and Fathiye Takhtâr Mawtahâ story collection

In the period from the mid-1900s to the present day, the modern Arab story has made significant progress in the field of literatüre. The fact that the Gulf countries, including Kuwait, which gained its independence on June 19, 1961, gained their independence in the last quarter of the 20th century and the rapid rise in their economies was the triggering factor of this development. It is possible to see the reflections of this development in the world of literature in stories and other types of literature published in various newspapers and magazines. It is known that socioeconomic changes in Kuwait bring some new values and social problems that can be considered new for Arab society. Layla al-Uthman, which we discussed in our thesis, comes to the fore with her striking handling of these topics in her stories. Love and women are the main themes in the stories of Layla al-Uthman. She prefers to use female heroes in her works, and she handles the role of women in and out of the family with a critical perspective. In his stories, the author argues that women have the same freedom as men in their lives, and questions the authority of men in society. In her stories, she emphasizes the inability of the women to meet their individual and social needs due to the old and restrictive traditions that govern society. In our thesis, we examined the story collection of Layla al-Uthman called "Fathiye Takhtâr Mawtahâ" because of her ability to mirror the socio-cultural situation in Kuwait society before and after the oil. In this context, we included the development of the modern story in Kuwait in the first part of the thesis, the life and literary personality of the author in the second part, and the analysis of the collection consisting of thirteen stories called "Fathiye Takhtâr Mawtahâ" in the third part. In the stories in our thesis where translation and analysis methods are used, Layla al-Uthman focuses on the "human reality" specifically for women.
