Relationship between the body perception and self-esteem of the high school students in terms of some variants (Sample of Akşehir)

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of media and media products on the levels of the body perception and self-esteem of the high school students. The exemplification of the survey includes 385 students studying in Akşehir the County of Konya the Province. In this survey, 'Rosenberg Scale of Self Esteem' and 'The Scale of body perception' have been used as the tools for collecting data. Frequency, percent, total points, average of rank, Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test, Kruskal Wallis H-test, Mann Whitney U-Test and Spearman Brown Correlation Analysis have been employed in the analysis of the data. As a consequence of the survey, it has been detected that there is a meaningful relation in the negative way with the medium level between the self-esteem and body perception of the students. A meaningful relation between the points which students have got from the scales of self-esteem and body perception, and the variants of gender, school types, family kind, perceived socioeconomic status, daily usage of phone/tablet, the number of social media profiles that is owned, the number of the series that is regularly followed , the sort of the mostly watched program. The self-esteem can be predicted singly via the socioeconomic status of the students and the duration of the daily tablet/phone usage. The more tablet/phone has been used in a day, the less self-esteem has become. A meaningful relation between the case of students' having a diet and the aesthetical intervention to their bodies and the level of self-esteem and body perception. According to the findings of the search, the body perception of the students who have a diet and aesthetical intervention to their bodies is more negative and their self-esteem is lower.
